Vandal Caught

July 30, 2013

A woman named Jiamei Tian was arrested Monday afternoon for vandalizing the National Cathedral. A spokeswoman from the Metropolitan Police Department told the Associated Press the woman would likely face charges of destruction of property. The suspect was found in the area of the Northewest D.C. Cathedral. Green paint was found Monday splashed across the Bethlehem Chapel’s organ and in the Children’s Chapel at the Cathedral. According to a press release, the paint was still wet when it was discovered. It’s unknown if the National Cathedral vandalism is related to other incidents involving green paint at the Lincoln Memorial and on a statue outside the Smithsonian Castle. Newsham told the AP police hope to question the woman about the other cases of vandalism, “but a language barrier delayed the interrogation.”
