Definition of Color

It is all an illusion…

Color can make the smallest space look bright and airy while it can enclose a larger space just as quickly as it can open it. The popularity of today’s open concept floor plans really requires us to look closely at color adjacencies and the rooms that encompass them. It is essential that you still define space with area rugs and furniture placement but by selecting a paint color that is a shade darker or lighter can still continue to define as well as open up your space. Perhaps, you even select a paint that is within the same palette — the space still remains open and yet the space is still subtly defined. As seen in the photo, the living/dining space is defined by a light stone color while the kitchen is enveloped in wheat linen making it appear as a bigger space.
